Broadcasting & Media Production Course Path

Note: All students begin with the Foundation course below before choosing either the Broadcasting or Graphic Design track. The following courses represent the Broadcasting (BVP) sequence.

🎯A Program That Meets Students Where They Are🎯

We know that not every student in the Broadcasting & Media Production track will follow a straight four-year path. That’s why the program is designed to deliver a full, valuable learning experience — even if a student only participates for one year.
From day one, students get hands-on experience with the tools and skills used in video production, digital storytelling, and broadcast journalism.
Those who stay longer will have the opportunity to go deeper, take on leadership roles, and pursue certification — but every student leaves with real-world knowledge they can use.

Our Audio/Video Technology program offers a structured pathway designed to guide students from foundational knowledge to advanced expertise in media production. Beginning with the Principles of Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications course, students gain an introduction to the world of video production, learning essential skills in camera operation, shot composition, and industry terminology. As they progress, they will deepen their understanding through Audio/Video Production I, focusing on hands-on experience in editing, sound design, and project development. Finally, Audio/Video Production II challenges students to master advanced techniques in live production, leadership, and industry standards, culminating in the creation of a professional portfolio. Each course builds upon the last, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in the dynamic field of media production.

Foundation Course: Principles of Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications

This introductory course is the essential starting point for all students, regardless of prior experience with video production. Students will begin with the basics, learning how to operate camera equipment, frame shots, and understand key video terminology. Through hands-on projects, students will explore foundational skills in multimedia production, setting the stage for more advanced study and creative exploration in the field of audio/video technology.

Next Level: Audio/Video Production I

After completing the Principles course, students advance to Audio/Video Production I, where they dive deeper into the technical aspects of audio and video production. This hands-on course covers video editing, sound design, project planning, and scriptwriting, giving students the skills needed for media production careers.

Advanced Course: Audio/Video Production II

In this final course of the A/V track, students build on the skills developed in the previous courses. Audio/Video Production II focuses on advanced production techniques, live event broadcasting, leadership, and project management. Students will complete the course with a career portfolio that demonstrates their expertise and readiness for the professional world.

Real-World Application: Internship Opportunities for Senior Students

By their senior year, students who have completed the Audio/Video Technology courses at The Bellville Learning Center are eligible for internship placements with local companies. This final phase of their education allows them to apply the technical and creative skills they’ve developed in real-world settings. These internships offer invaluable experience, enabling students to build their resumes, network with industry professionals, and transition from the classroom to professional environments. This hands-on opportunity is crucial in preparing students for the workforce or further specialized education.
