What Is BVP?

Brahma Video Productions (BVP) is many things: a hands-on A/V class, a student-led club, a newsroom, and a creative studio for storytelling and digital content. Based at the Bellville Learning Center, BVP is where students explore journalism, video production, and podcasting through real projects with real audiences.

During school hours, students build technical skills, collaborate with classmates, and complete projects like the BVP Newscast, The Bellville Herd Digital Newspaper, the BVP Podcast, and event coverage. But for those who catch the spark—those who really love this work—BVP becomes even more. After school, it transforms into a club where students take the lead, dive deeper, and stretch their creativity beyond the class.

So, is BVP a class? A club? A newsroom? Or a launchpad for creative talent?

The answer is YES!

BVP: Your Journey in Media Starts Here

Competitions in Broadcasting, Journalism, and Filmmaking

Brahma Video Productions (BVP) students have the opportunity to compete in a variety of UIL and ILPC contests that go beyond basic classwork — offering a platform for those who want to sharpen their skills, dig deeper, and produce their best work.

While classroom time introduces the core tools and techniques of media production, students who want to compete pursue additional projects after school, using available equipment, studio space, and digital resources to prepare at a professional level.

UIL Broadcast Journalism

This competition challenges students to produce complete newscasts featuring anchors, sports segments, feature stories, and technical directing. It’s a real-world test of teamwork, timing, and storytelling under pressure — and a chance to showcase students’ command of broadcast production.

UIL Online News

With 27 distinct categories — including digital news writing, photo slideshows, podcasting, and multimedia packages — the UIL Online News Contest gives students the opportunity to publish, compete, and get recognized for high-quality digital journalism. Submissions must be published during the school year, encouraging students to build a portfolio of public-facing work.

UIL Young Filmmakers Festival

For those drawn to storytelling through cinema, the UIL Film Festival remains a flagship event. Students write, shoot, and edit original films in categories such as Narrative, Documentary, and Animation. It’s a proving ground for emerging filmmakers looking to create powerful, original content from concept to screen.

BVP: Turning Vision Into Reality

Brahma Video Productions (BVP)

BVP is more than just an A/V class at Bellville High School — it’s a launchpad for students who want to do more. Whether they’re drawn to journalism, video production, podcasting, or creative media, BVP offers a space where students can explore, build skills, and bring their ideas to life.

Some students come for the elective credit. Others stay after school. Those are the ones who find something more — a passion, a purpose, or maybe even a future career.

With the addition of The Bellville Herd, students now work across both print and broadcast media, taking on roles that mirror real industry jobs. In the Learning Center studio, they plan, film, edit, write, produce, and collaborate — often far beyond the school day.
